Enjoy eating out a lot but need to count your calories? A new edition of the book “Healthy Dining in Orange County” lists healthy menu items at nearly 100 restaurants in the area.

The eateries, including chains such as El Torito, Red Lobster, Ruby’s Diners, Koo Koo Roo, the Old Spaghetti Factory, Pick Up Stix, Jamba Juice, Round Table Pizza, Sizzler, Souplantation and Wahoo’s Fish Taco allowed their menus to be analyzed for calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates and protein.

According to San Diego-based Accents on Health Inc., which produces the book, most restaurant entrees have 1,000 to 2,000 calories and 50 to 100 grams of fat, some of which cannot be detected by even the most nutrition-savvy folks.

Other restaurant menus analyzed in the book include Ciao in Santa Ana, The Cottage in Laguna Beach, Birraporetti’s in Costa Mesa, Disney’s PCH Grill in Anaheim, the Quiet Woman in Corona del Mar, Scott’s Seafood Grill and Bar in Costa Mesa, and Walt’s Wharf in Seal Beach.

There are separate “Healthy Dining” books for restaurants in Los Angeles and San Diego counties.

The book, which examines four to six nutritional items from each menu, can be purchased at some bookstores, various Jamba Juice locations, Mother’s Market in Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach or by calling (800) 953-3463.
