The National Recreation and Parks Assn. has declared Mission Viejo a National Fitness City of 1999. The award honors cities for their positive impact on the fitness and health of their population. Mission Viejo will be honored as the top Fitness City for metropolitan areas with populations between 50,000 and 90,000. Steve Bell, community services manager, said the prize was based on the city’s outstanding recreation facilities. City officials will be presented with the award in October at a conference of the association in Nashville, Tenn.
