* Re “Billing Plan Prompts Trustee Recall Campaign,” Aug. 21: I am embarrassed to have received my secondary education in the Anaheim Union High School District (Loara High School, ‘86), which voted on Aug. 19 to charge the U.S. government for the cost of educating “illegal” immigrants enrolled in its schools.
The institution that hired talented and motivated teachers--with whom I studied the Enlightenment, Shakespeare and the workings of this country’s government--has just proved itself to be xenophobic, racist and shortsighted by passing a retrograde resolution that panders to supporters of Proposition 187 and other anti-immigrant policies.
Let us hope that AUHSD’s students and faculty resist the extremist spirit of the resolution and the trustees who supported it, and refuse to descend to the politics of green card checking.
