President Clinton emerged on Thursday from two days of relatively secluded relaxation at his borrowed vacation home to ride horseback with his daughter and play back-to-back rounds of golf with college friends.

A squadron of wild geese flew over a nearby field as the president and daughter Chelsea rode on sandy, narrow paths through groves of oak trees at the 40-acre Blue Heron Farm.

Clinton left after an hour for the Farm Neck Golf Club, where he spent the rest of the day playing golf with two sets of college friends. He made no remark when his first shot veered into the woods.

During a later round with Clare O’Callahan, Maurie Flanagan and her son, Sean, Clinton paused after his first shot and asked: “Is it OK?”

“Hit one more. Go ahead,” Sean replied. So Clinton did.

“Much better,” O’Callahan said.

The Clintons are scheduled to leave Martha’s Vineyard off the Massachusetts coast on Saturday for a round of fund-raisers in the Hamptons on Long Island. Beneficiaries will include the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Rodham Clinton’s expected campaign in New York for a U.S. Senate seat.
