Cal Lutheran University will begin its fall semester Tuesday with four new faculty members.

Somnath Basu has been appointed associate professor of finance in the School of Business. Basu earned his bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of Delhi, his master’s degree at Marquette University and his doctorate from Arizona State University.

In addition to being a financial consultant, Basu served on the faculty at the University of Denver.

Julie Sieger, Laura Mageary and Jan Atkinson have been appointed to positions in the School of Education.

Sieger, who will serve as assistant professor in the liberal studies program, received her master’s in school management from the University of La Verne and her doctorate from the University of San Francisco.

She is a former elementary school teacher and administrator who has served as a lecturer and student teacher supervisor at CLU.

Mageary will join the faculty as a special education instructor. She has a bachelor’s degree in deaf studies as well as a master’s degree in special education from Cal State Northridge. She has several years of experience as a public and private school teacher.

Atkinson, who joins the CLU faculty as an instructor in the counseling and guidance program, earned a master’s degree in education psychology and counseling from CSUN. She worked as a school counselor for the Ventura County superintendent of schools office at Gateway Community School. Atkinson also has a private practice, specializing in teens, parenting and women’s issues.
