Quiksilver Inc., which built its name on surfing, is now sponsoring snowboard parks at Mammoth Mountain and Big Bear.

The Huntington Beach-based surfwear maker has been sponsor of the Quiksilver Terrain Park at Bear Mountain since October. The new Mammoth Mountain Unbound Park opened on Thanksgiving.

“We’re trying to do anything we can to support the snowboard industry,” Quiksilver spokeswoman Diana Pecci said Monday. In addition to designing sportswear, Quiksilver and its subsidiaries make snowboards, snowboard clothing, snow boots and bindings.

The company declined to say how much money it is spending on the three-year sponsorship of the Mammoth park or the one-year deal with the Bear Mountain park. In both cases, Quiksilver banners are displayed at the parks and its staff wears the Huntington Beach company’s clothes.

While Quiksilver--like other surfwear companies--has reached out to various so-called extreme sports, it does not yet sponsor a skateboarding park, Pecci said. The company does, however, sponsor a couple of professional skateboarders, she said.
