A 16-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself in the throat during a game of Russian roulette died Wednesday at a Santa Clarita hospital, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy said Wednesday.

Chris Adamakis was visiting a house in the 26000 block of Claudette Street in Canyon Country on Monday when he took out a .357 magnum pistol and told two teenage girls, “We’re going to play Russian roulette,” Sheriff’s Sgt. Irma Becerra said.

The boy then pointed the gun at his neck and pulled the trigger, critically wounding himself, Becerra said. He was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he died about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Becerra said.

Becerra said investigators do not believe the youth intended to kill himself and the incident was being investigated by sheriff’s homicide detectives as an accidental shooting. It was not clear how the boy obtained the firearm, she said.
