Authorities Identify Surfer Who Died
The surfer who died Tuesday after being found unconscious in the waters off Bolsa Chica State Beach has been identified as John McClatchey III, 41, of Buena Park, authorities said.
The cause of death still had not been determined Wednesday because additional tests were being done as part of the autopsy, said Cullen Ellingburgh, deputy Orange County coroner. He said he did not know how long the tests would take.
McClatchey was found floating near his surfboard about noon Tuesday by another surfer. Lifeguards said it did not appear that he drowned or was injured by his board.
