3Com Corp. named Carl Yankowski, who just resigned from Reebok, chief executive of its Palm Computing Inc. unit as the company prepares to sell shares of its fast-growing electronic-organizer maker to the public.

Yankowski, 51, was CEO and president of Reebok International Ltd.’s Reebok brand of athletic shoes and clothing for 14 months until he resigned this week. Before that, he was president of Sony Corp.’s Sony Electronics Inc. for five years. Yankowski, who also worked at General Electric Co. and Polaroid Corp., will join Palm Computing on Dec. 13. Alan Kessler, who has headed Palm since June and has been with 3Com since 1985, will continue as president of the unit.
