Calhoun Raises Outside-Earnings Issue
Connecticut Coach Jim Calhoun is asking the Connecticut State Ethics Commission to expand its rules on what kinds of advertisements and promotions he can get paid for.
Calhoun’s proposal would allow him to use the name of Connecticut’s NCAA-winning team in ads for companies that have contracts with the university, said Alan Plofsky, executive director of the ethics commission.
Ethics rules prohibit state employees from cashing in on their positions. Calhoun, therefore, is only allowed to appear in ads that do not specifically mention his connection to Connecticut and the basketball team, Plofsky said.
