Share

“Promoting Health Through Education,” a free conference focusing on the prevention of teen pregnancy, will be held today at Cal State Northridge.

Open to San Fernando Valley middle school students and their parents, the event is sponsored by the federally funded PATH program, or Promoting Abstinence for Teen Health. The four-hour conference will also touch on teen smoking and safety issues for parents.

This is the first conference in PATH’s two-year history to target middle school students, said PATH Director Bonnie Bailer.

“The [primary] purpose of this program is to recruit high school students and train them as peer educators,” Bailer said. “We want to not only get middle school students involved, but also parents.”

Cal State Northridge students and such organizations as Chicanos for Community Medicine and the Central American United Students Assn. will also participate in today’s conference, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

It will be held in the CSUN Student Union, 18111 Nordhoff St. For more information, call (818) 901-4672.
