Playing the Numbers Game That Is College Football

Chris Dufresne [Dec. 2] clearly is biased on behalf of the Pacific 10. In citing the Pac-10’s 19-14 nonconference football record, he ignores that nine of those victories were over Georgia Southern, Middle Tennessee State, Boise State, Louisiana Lafayette, Rutgers, Nevada (twice) and Texas El Paso (twice). The Pac-10 lost the only four games it played against top-20 teams by an average score of 45-11 and lost as well to Idaho, New Mexico State and San Jose State.
The Pac-10 will be lucky to go 2-3 in bowl games, capping off what any neutral observer would conclude to be a sorry season.

For those of you who are still contending that Nebraska should be in the Sugar Bowl playing for the national championship, I believe a stronger argument can be made for the Division I-AA Elon College Fightin’ Christians.
My reasoning goes as follows: The Cornhuskers lost to Texas, which lost to North Carolina State, which lost to North Carolina, which lost to Furman, which lost to Elon.
Go Fightin’ Christians!
