Y2K: Trailer-Compliant

Disney took advantage of record crowds that turned out over Thanksgiving weekend for “Toy Story 2” to plug not two, not three, but four of its year 2000 releases: “Fantasia 2000,” “Dinosaur,” “The Tigger Movie” and “102 Dalmatians,” with the three-minute “Dinosaur” trailer the most popular by far, according to our informal poll. Expect to see trailers for other 2000 releases very soon: Warner Bros.’ summer action movie “The Perfect Storm,” with George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg; Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator,” from DreamWorks; the New Line Cinema thriller “Final Destination”; and 20th Century Fox’s animated “Titan A.E.” It’s not clear whether trailers for the sci-fi comic adaptation “X-Men” (Fox) or the Farrelly brothers-Jim Carrey comedy “Me, Myself and Irene” (Fox) will make it to theaters for the holidays. There’s always the Super Bowl.
Literarily Inclined
Kate Winslet may have turned down the role of Viola (which Gwyneth Paltrow accepted) in “Shakespeare in Love,” but she is playing the muse of another literary icon. In Philip Kaufman’s just-wrapped “Quills,” Winslet portrays Madeleine Le Clerc, the laundry maid who befriended the French writer while he was in the Charenton Asylum. “Madeleine is a naughty girl who smuggles his manuscripts out of the asylum. It’s not as dark as you might imagine,” Winslet explained at the “Holy Smoke!” reception Nov. 30 at L’Hermitage. “There’s quite a lot of humor.” Next, Winslet stars in “Therese Raquin,” based on the novel by Emile Zola. Theater director David Leveaux is attached to direct, with shooting scheduled to begin in June.
Rooting Interest
Kevin Costner, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew Perry, Hugh Hefner, Eddie Griffin, Michael Goorjian, Michael Keaton, Oliver Stone and billionaire Paul Allen were among the A-list bachelors who showed up recently at gal pals Rachel Hunter and Lauren Holly’s party at Hunter’s canyon pad. But it was a man in uniform whom the ladies (who included Minnie Driver, Alanis Morissette and a bevy of Hunter’s model friends) were most excited to see: The Roto-Rooter guy who showed up around midnight to unclog the toilets.
