COLLEGE BASKETBALL / SOUTHLAND : Prince Helps Pepperdine Defeat Wichita State
Tommie Prince scored four points in the final 25.5 seconds and Wichita State had a costly late technical foul as Pepperdine defeated the Shockers, 74-69, on Saturday night at Wichita, Kan.
Prince’s basket with 25.5 seconds left gave the Waves (4-2) a 70-67 lead, and he scored again for a 72-69 lead after Darrin Williams responded with two free throws for Wichita State (2-2).
With 3.5 seconds left, the Shockers’ Craig Steven called a timeout despite having none left. Tezale Archie made both free throws from the technical foul to seal the Waves’ win.
Pepperdine, led by Brandon Armstrong’s 22 points, was up, 51-39, midway through the second half. But Jason Perez scored five of his team-high 14 points as Wichita State rallied and forced a 56-56 tie with 6:25 left.
Prince finished with 13 points and Archie had 10.
Carl Lemons had 13 points for Wichita State, Williams had 12 and O.J. Robinson 10.
