The Pinnacle of a Distinguished Career

Share

Patt Morrison’s excellent article (“When Public Office Was a Lesson in the Chemistry of Change,” SoCal P.O.V., Nov. 14) does not mention that retired Congressman Augustus F. Hawkins served for years as chairman of a major House of Representatives committee. As chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee and a leader of the U.S. Congress, Mr. Hawkins reached the pinnacle of his long and distinguished legislative career.

It is my opinion that Hawkins established a record of dedicated, selfless public service to our state and nation that may never be equaled.
