State’s Housing Needs

Share

California is expected to add 6 million residents in the next 20 years while its stock of affordable housing is projected to shrink given current construction trends. Economists warn that housing shortages and high housing costs could threaten the state’s ability to attract and retain workers and exacerbate traffic and environmental problems. On Wednesday, UCLA Extension is hosting a daylong conference to discuss ways to meet the state’s housing needs. Keynote speeches and panel discussions will address such issues as what the state legislature can do to encourage more construction of affordable housing and ways to overcome neighborhood opposition to new housing developments.
