Consultant Named to State Committee
A Thousand Oaks resident has been appointed by the California Building Standards Commission to its Technical Code Advisory Committee.
Michael Gibbens, 43, a consultant on handicapped-access regulations, and an author of nine books on disabled-access compliance, will be working with the Disabled Accessibility Committee, which votes on modifications to California’s building code.
“Let’s say a city wants to put in more elevators or bigger bathrooms, they would have to submit it and we would go through it and try to get agreement from various organizations,” Gibbens said.
For the last four years, Gibbens has served on the state access board, the division that makes recommendations to the Building Standards Commission on disabled-access laws.
