What: “Official 1999 World Series Home Video”

Price: $19.95

It’s needless to say that any New York Yankee fan is going to want this videotape. But so will any baseball fan.

One thing that is missing, though, is probably the most talked-about event during the Series-- Jim Gray’s interview with Pete Rose before Game 2. Also missing is how Yankee Chad Curtis, the Game 3 star, showed class in politely declining to do an interview with NBC’s Gray after that game. Curtis, you may recall, simply explained that it was a team thing, paid tribute to his grandmother and then ended the interview. Curtis had just had his first two-homer game of the season.

But there is plenty in this tape that makes it worthwhile, including a quick review of the Yankees’ incredible 1998 season and a review of the 1999 regular season, including David Cone’s perfect game, the Yankees’ second in two years.

There is also a pretty good recap of the playoffs, following the Yankees’ path through the Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox. The other playoff series are dealt with as well.

But the key element of the tape is the game-by-game breakdown of the Yankees’ sweep of the Atlanta Braves.

There is a bonus too.

This was the Yankees’ 25th World Series championship, and the tape looks back at the previous 24. This segment includes Babe Ruth talking about his much-debated called shot against the Chicago Cubs in 1932. He talks about pointing to the outfield and hitting the next pitch for a home run. “The good Lord must have been with me,” Ruth says without making it clear if he called the shot.

If it sounds as though there is a lot in one 60-minute tape, it’s because there is. For information: (800) 367-7765.
