The city may hire a consultant to review the level of service being provided by the Laguna Beach Fire Department to determine if the community’s needs are being met. According to Councilman Wayne L. Peterson, the issue was considered several years ago, but no action was taken by the city.

The review could be a precursor for another study by the Orange County Fire Authority.

The item was placed on the agenda by Mayor Steve Dicterow, who stated in a report that members of the Fire Department and the Laguna Beach Firefighters Assn. have indicated that services are not being provided at the highest level possible.

Based on the review, the city would decide whether or not the Orange County Authority might provide a higher level of service, or the city could take steps to raise the level of service.
