Stable’s Permit Won’t Be Revoked
A group that uses horseback riding for the rehabilitation of disabled people won a reprieve Tuesday when a Los Angeles City Council panel dismissed a proposal to revoke the facility’s permit.
City Councilman Hal Bernson, whose district includes the stable, said Special Equestrian Riding Therapy Inc. had revamped the operation, installing landscaping and systems to control dust, flies and odor, so it is less of a nuisance to neighbors.
“We initially initiated a revocation on this because there were a lot of problems,” Bernson said. “It looks like the current operator has bent over backward to make sure this is the type of operation we want in the area. This is a horse-keeping area.”
The council’s Planning and Land Use Management Committee, which Bernson chairs, granted the group’s appeal of a Board of Zoning Appeals order that would have closed the commercial horse boarding facility at 9633 Baden Ave.
