Soccer Coach Faces Molestation Charge
A Canyon Country man who coached a girls’ soccer team has been charged with molesting a 17-year-old member of his team, authorities said Thursday.
Manny Cornejo, a 46-year-old businessman, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly fondling the Canyon Country girl at his home Nov. 9, said Det. Mike Wilson of the Family Crimes Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
“She told her parents and they called the police,” Wilson said.
Cornejo, who had been a coach for Girls League Soccer in the Santa Clarita area, was charged Wednesday with one count of misdemeanor child molestation, said Deputy District Atty. Rose Reyes. The crime carries a maximum penalty of one year in county jail.
The Sheriff’s Department asks that anyone with more information call Wilson at (661) 255-1121, ext. 5165.
