SAN CLEMENTE
The City Council may hold its first public hearing Wednesday concerning San Clemente’s dispute with Camp Pendleton over a proposed helicopter training facility.
City officials fear that the Marines’ proposal for two parallel, 4,000-foot airstrips that will be used for about 430 daily training operations will create a constant disturbance for San Clemente residents who live a little more than 3 1/2 miles from the facility.
Aviation attorney Barbara Lichman will meet with the council in closed session before Wednesday’s meeting to discuss the situation, Assistant City Manager Laura Reinsimar said.
Should the council decide on a course of action during the closed session, a public hearing on the matter will be held at the beginning of the meeting, she said.
