Pincay Today
Here’s a quick look at the five horses Laffit Pincay Jr. is scheduled to ride today at Hollywood Park:
* Demidoll (8-1 on the morning line for the first race)--A 2-year-old filly who is winless in four tries, she was fifth, beaten by 14 3/4 lengths, going six furlongs at Hollywood on Nov. 27.
* Flying Journey (7-2, third race)--Claimed in November of 1997 by trainer Bill Spawr for $50,000, the California-bred colt has dropped to the $8,000 ranks. He has one win and one second in five starts this year, running both of his best races at Fairplex Park. The 1 1/16-mile race is his best distance, but he’s winless in three tries at Hollywood.
* Irish Nip (6-1, sixth race)--This horse is trained by Richard Mandella, who won the Hollywood Turf Cup with Lazy Lode and Pincay last Saturday. In his only start, Irish Nip ran fifth at 1 1/8 miles on grass on Nov. 20.
* Storm Dog (8-1 as an entry with Lord Cunningham, seventh race)--Trainer Eduardo Inda’s colt gets a tough starting spot, the outside post. Storm Dog, in his eighth start, broke his maiden Oct. 17 at Santa Anita, then was fourth at Hollywood on Nov. 19.
* I Gotcha Covered (8-1, eighth race)--This 2-year-old gelding is a first-time starter who is being shipped across town after unspectacular workouts at Santa Anita.
