Diners Club Golf Returns After a One-Year Layoff
The Diners Club matches, featuring two-player teams from the three major tours, resume today at Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Coast after a one-year layoff.
Steve Elkington and Jeff Maggert of the PGA Tour, Gil Morgan and Jay Sigel of the Senior PGA Tour and Dottie Pepper and Juli Inkster of the LPGA Tour are back to defend the titles they won in 1997. The event was canceled last year to avoid a conflict with the Presidents Cup.
The event is actually three separate match-play tournaments involving four teams from each tour. The senior field includes Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus playing together.
Other players competing include Fred Couples, Mark Calcavecchia, Steve Pate, Bruce Fleisher, Annika Sorenstam, Laura Davies and Karrie Webb.
The matches begin today at 9:30 and the finals are Sunday at 9:30.
