The City Council will meet with legal counsel in closed session before Wednesday’s regular meeting to discuss the city’s options in a dispute with Camp Pendleton over a proposed helicopter training facility.

Should the council decide a course of action during the closed session, a public hearing on the matter will be held Wednesday to give residents a chance to weigh in on the council’s decision.

The Marines’ proposal calls for two parallel 4,000-foot airstrips for 430 daily training operations to be built about 3 1/2 miles from San Clemente city limits. The city fears the facility will create a constant nuisance for residents and be used to house aircraft that create even more noise than helicopters.
