A woman convicted of killing her boyfriend and burying him in back of their rented Topanga Canyon home was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years to life in prison.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Renee Meckler said Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Steven Suzukawa sentenced Christina Marie White, 33, to 15 years to life for second-degree murder and an additional 25 years to life for a special allegation for using a gun.

After killing Peter Paul, 29, White hired day laborers to dig a ditch on the property, into which she dumped Paul’s body wrapped in a tarp and covered with deodorizing powder, Meckler said.

The body was discovered by the landlord later that month.

During the trial, which ended last month, White told jurors that she was repeatedly abused by Paul, who she said had threatened to kill her the day of the slaying.

Meckler said White testified that Paul was killed after he aimed a gun at her, she pushed him and he fell, accidentally shooting himself in the back of the head.
