What Are You Doing Over the Holidays?

Share

Recently we asked about your holiday happenings:

* I do not celebrate any holidays in the winter. I am a Baha’i. It is a new religion. We believe in Baha’u’llah. Our main concept is unity of mankind. I have holidays at different times.

--Derakhshanian, 11,

Lincoln Middle School, Santa Monica

* We celebrate Las Posadas. We light candles at church and my aunt and I walk around the outside of the church with lit candles. Then we go inside to say prayers. Later we break open a pinata.

--Ana, Figueroa Street Elementary,

Los Angeles

* I observe a month called Ramadan. Ramadan means you fast from sunrise to sunset. My parents invite friends and family to come break fast with us. My mom makes special dishes to eat. At the end of Ramadan, we celebrate the Eid with lots of gifts and family celebrations.

* On Christmas at my house, the grown-ups wake up first. My grandmother is already downstairs making Christmas dinner. My uncle comes and wakes me, my sister and brother up. We all get dressed. Then we do our work and open our presents.
