GARDEN GROVE
Two Garden Grove Fire Department employees were recognized recently by the Orange County Fire Services Assn. Fire Capt. David Barlag was named Orange County Firefighter of the Year, and safety education specialist Ellen Janice Covey was honored for providing superior service in educating the public on fire safety.
Barlag served as Garden Grove’s training officer for the past three years and was instrumental in the setup of the city’s new emergency operations center this year. Covey won the Monsignor John Sammon Award for showing outstanding achievement in safety and family involvement programs.
