University Gets $10 Million for Arts Center
Shortly before his death in November, real estate developer and philanthropist William H. Hannon donated $10 million to Loyola Marymount University to build a performing arts center, the university has announced.
A third-generation Angeleno, Hannon and fellow developer Fritz B. Burns founded Westchester and built several other Southern California communities.
The donation, one of the largest individual gifts in the university’s history, is earmarked for a center to be built on a campus hillside overlooking Marina del Rey and the ocean.
Lori Buchanan-Segall, Hannon’s niece and chairwoman of the William Hannon Foundation board, said her uncle envisioned “an elegant, accessible center, which will be visually strong and project an LMU signature over L.A.’s Westside, a burgeoning center of film, television and recording production.”
