School Board Search

The Board of Education has again failed the Latino community. Out of 14 members appointed to conduct a nationwide search for a new superintendent, only two members are Latinos and both are males. In a district that is predominantly Latino, this underrepresentation is offensive.
The school board had an opportunity to start to mend bridges with the Latino community but it has opted to widen the gap. Scores of male and female Latino lawyers, doctors, professors, businesspeople and union members throughout the school district would jump at the opportunity to serve the most precious members of the community, their children. But either because of laziness or ignorance, the school members failed to select a fair number of Latinos to this committee. It is apparent that fair and equal representation is a term unknown to the Board of Education.
