Pacific Gulf’s Wetzel Takes Added Post
* J.R. Wetzel, executive vice president of operations for Pacific Gulf Properties Inc. in Newport Beach, has been named to the additional post of chief operating officer. Wetzel joined the company in 1998 after serving as vice president of development in the Western region for Industrial Developments International in Irvine. Before that, he was president of O’Donnell Property Services and senior managing director of Insignia-O’Donnell.
* Michael J. Fowler has joined Kaufman Meeks + Partners’ Newport Beach office as project architect. He had been team leader and project manager for the residential division of Mulvanny Architects Inc. in Irvine. Fowler was also job captain and project manager at Pacific General Inc. in Mission Viejo.
* James A. Frey has been named senior vice president of operations for PacifiCare Health Systems Inc.’s new health plans division, effective Feb. 1. He will be based at the company’s Santa Ana headquarters. Frey was formerly president and chief executive for PacifiCare’s Nevada health plan.
* Debbie Shinn has been named vice president and general merchandising manager, juniors, for Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. in Anaheim. She joined the company in 1998 as divisional merchandise manager, juniors.
* Anastacio Martinez has been appointed director of operations for JBZ Architecture and Planning in Newport Beach. He previously worked for a number of Orange County residential architectural firms and had his own firm.
* E. John Kondo has been named to the scientific advisory board of Illumea Corp. in Newport Beach. He is the former head of research and development at Olympus America.
* Mohamed A. El-Erian, Pasi M. Hamalainen, Brent L. Holden, John S. Loftus and Ernest L. Schmider have been appointed managing directors for Pimco Advisors Holdings L.P. in Newport Beach.
El-Erian joined Pacific Investment early this year, after being a managing director heading the emerging markets economic research team at Salomon Smith Barney/Citibank in London. Hamalainen is a senior member of the portfolio management and investment strategy groups.
Holden is an account manager involved in managing Pimco’s overall client servicing effort and a senior member of the investment strategy group. Loftus has been with Pacific Investment for 13 years and is an account manager and a senior member of the investment strategy group.
Schmider is chief administrative and legal officer.
* John P. McDonald has joined Morpace International as head of the new Orange County office in Irvine. McDonald was previously senior vice president of marketing and sales at For Health in Costa Mesa and senior vice president of marketing for Health Net in Woodland Hills.
* Raymond S. Olsen has been appointed president of WNC Management Inc. in Costa Mesa, a subsidiary of WNC & Associates Inc. He was formerly an assistant vice president of United Dominion Realty Trust and executive vice president of the National Apartment Assn.
