Strouds Promotes Controller Van Wagner to CFO

* Strouds Inc., a specialty home textiles and furnishings retailer based in Industry, has promoted controller Gary Van Wagner to chief financial officer.

“Gary’s background and extensive knowledge of Strouds’ operations and functional structure made him an ideal candidate,” said Robert Menar, chief operating officer of Strouds, which operates 65 stores in five states.

* El Segundo-based Computer Sciences Corp. has named Carol Bothwell as chief knowledge officer. For the last two years, Bothwell, who is based in Falls Church, Va., has managed CSC’s corporate knowledge program. In her new role, she will be responsible for defining CSC’s knowledge strategy and will continue to develop, implement and manage CSC’s knowledge program, which is aimed at maintaining and evolving the company’s core business methodology.

* Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. named Loran R. Fite senior vice president and chief information officer. Fite was chief information officer for Australia’s Westpac Banking Corp. He will report to Murdoch’s son, Lachlan, who is senior executive vice president of the company, as well as Roger Fishman, executive vice president of marketing.

* Pharmavite Corp., a Mission Hills-based maker of nutritional supplements, including Nature Made-brand products, has named Brent Bailey chief operating officer. Bailey had been an executive vice president of marketing at Del Monte Foods Inc. In his new post, he will focus on developing Pharmavite’s overall market share and brand position and on developing new products.

* Bob Morales has been named senior vice president for Stoorza, Ziegaus & Metzger Inc., a Los Angeles-based public relations firm. Morales, formerly of Ketchum public relations agency, will be a senior public affairs strategist focusing on Los Angeles, Sacramento and Inland Empire markets.
