* If ever there was a reason to rethink America’s love affair with the death penalty, it’s the 3,000 now-suspect convictions based on arrests carried out by LAPD’s Rampart Division. Who knows how many other such miscarriages of justice have led to capital convictions across the country?
There is no excuse for a civilized society to risk executing the potentially innocent, in the name of revenge, supposed deterrence or any other reason.
