Four Plead Guilty in Internet Jobs Scam
Four men accused of sending 50 million phony job offers to Internet users across the country have pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy charges, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Steve Shklosskiy, 23, Yan Shtok, 22, Vadim Vernick, 46, and Timur Safranskiy, 22, instructed job applicants to send them application fees of $35 to $40 to qualify for jobs stuffing envelopes at home.
One of their messages promised: “You can make between $2,500 and $4,500 a month depending on how much time you are willing to spend.”
Postal investigators said the men used a bogus Internet address to avoid detection and instructed applicants to send the fees to mail drops in the Los Angeles area. They will each face a maximum five-year prison term when they are sentenced in April.
