The owner of Condom Revolution, an adult-themed store, says he has met the city’s requirements to operate, but at least one local minister says he is corrupting the morals of San Clemente residents.

Pastor Ron Sukut, senior clergyman at Cornerstone Community Church, spoke out against the store while giving the invocation at the City Council’s Dec. 15 meeting.

“I feel that pornography is as powerful or more powerful of a drug as any substance that drug pushers sell. I feel like it’s a vicious destructive presence in our city,” Sukut said.

The Costa Mesa-based Condom Revolution, which specializes in sexual novelty items such as lingerie, marital aids and, of course, condoms, grabbed the community’s attention when it opened its third location not far from the San Clemente Civic Center along the city’s main commercial drag, El Camino Real.

Condom Revolution President Dean Charter defends his business, contending he promotes healthy relationships and that his merchandise enhances marriages instead of destroying them.
