A woman whose toddler son was legally drunk when he tumbled down a flight of stairs at an apartment complex has lost temporary custody of her four children.

Authorities said Latreece Deane, 33, told them she saw the 16-month-old boy take sips of vodka and gin the night he fell. Authorities said he was not seriously injured by the fall.

“He wants what his mama wants. What am I supposed to do about it?” she told authorities.

Authorities found Deane intoxicated and unconscious late Saturday after the boy fell at the apartment complex, about 16 miles northwest of Dallas. She was arrested Sunday and charged with injury to a child.

The toddler’s blood-alcohol content was 0.126, well above the 0.08 considered legally drunk in Texas. His three siblings--ages 12, 13 and 15--also were intoxicated, and the 13-year-old had traces of cocaine in his system, authorities said.

Several neighbors told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Deane had a party Saturday.

All four children were placed in custody of state Child Protective Services. A judge on Wednesday extended the state’s temporary custody of the children indefinitely.

Child Protective Services case worker Lisa Lambert said in court documents that Deane demanded to know if she was “supposed to just stop drinking because her son keeps taking her drink.”
