Seahawks Stay Optimistic

The Seattle Seahawks, losers of four in a row after Sunday’s 36-30 overtime disappointment against the Denver Broncos, have maintained a brave front going into Sunday’s showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I’m a little bit frustrated and disappointed,” said quarterback Jon Kitna, whose second lost fumble of the game Sunday was returned by Glenn Cadrez for the winning touchdown. “But I’m very optimistic and very positive that we can get this thing done. . . .

“We’ve just got to come out swinging this week. This is still ours for the taking. A lot of times you want things to be easy for you. But I’ve never had things go that way for me in my life. So it kind of makes it sweeter when you have to earn it this way.”

In San Diego, Junior Seau was more than a little ticked off to learn that he had been left off the AFC Pro Bowl team, ending a string of eight consecutive appearances.

“Right now it’s shocking, to tell you the truth,” he said.

The former USC All-American vowed to play at a “higher intensity” next season: “I just don’t take things like this lightly.”

Speaking of next year, sidelined Denver Bronco running back Terrell Davis has started running 100-yard sprints and can squat more than 300 pounds, a progression that has left him confident about his ability to return from a knee injury to the form that earned him the MVP award last season.

“It’s been that dramatic,” he said this week. “If it improves the same amount from now over the next two months, I’ll be Superman. Super strong.”
