IRVINE
With the hype surrounding potential Y2K problems across the globe, Irvine’s police chief has assured residents that the city is sufficiently prepared to move into the next millennium.
“We’re looking good,” Police Chief Charles Brobeck said. “There should be no significant problems created due to the turn of the century.”
The Police Department’s 911 emergency phone system is Y2K complaint, Brobeck said. Police personnel will be increased by about 25% the night of Dec. 31, including additional DUI, traffic and patrol officers, Lt. Sam Allevato said.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department also will have its Emergency Operations Center fully staffed.
