From Associated Press

Center Kenyon Martin, towering over most of the defenders who came his way, scored a career-high 26 points as No. 3-ranked Cincinnati passed and shot over Wisconsin Milwaukee in a 93-60 home-court victory Monday night.

Cincinnati (10-1) repeatedly got the 6-foot-9 Martin the ball in position for dunks, layups and uncontested turnaround jumpers, and Wisconsin Milwaukee (6-4) was helpless to do much about it. Martin made 10 of 15 shots.

Wisconsin Milwaukee has only one starter taller than 6-foot-3--center Chad Angeli, who is 6-9 and led the Panthers with 16 points. By contrast, Cincinnati has only one starter under 6-6.

No. 12 Indiana 95, Canisius 53--Forward Kirk Haston had 20 points to lead four double figure scorers for the Hoosiers (9-1) in an opening-round game in the Hoosier Classic--and their first game in the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Indiana improved to 35-0 in the Classic, in which it has defeated opponents by an average of 25 points. Canisius is 2-8.

No. 14 Maryland 69, George Mason 66--Center Lonny Baxter had 20 points and 13 rebounds as the Terrapins (9-2) shook off the effects of a 16-day layoff and used a late surge to defeat the Patriots (5-5) at College Park, Md. Maryland, in winning its 70th consecutive home-court game against a nonconference opponent, didn’t take the lead for good until forward Terence Morris made a free throw with 1:23 left.

No. 15 Ohio State 76, Oakland (Mich.) 50--Sophomore guard Brian Brown scored 16 of his career-high 21 points in the first half--including 10 in a row during a 25-2 run--for the Buckeyes (7-2) at Columbus, Ohio. Brown’s previous best of 18 points came 11 days ago against Coastal Carolina. Oakland (2-10) put two defenders on Ohio State’s leading scorers, Scoonie Penn and Michael Redd, throughout the game and held them to 10 shots and a combined 12 points.

No. 17 Temple 79, Cleveland State 66--Forward Mark Karcher scored 24 points for the Owls (6-2) at Cleveland before leaving with a shoulder injury that will sideline him indefinitely. The victory gave Temple Coach John Chaney a 7-5 lead in games against Cleveland State’s Rollie Massimino. The two hadn’t faced each other since Feb. 1, 1992, when Massimino was at Villanova. Cleveland State (5-6) is 40-54 in four seasons under Massimino.
