Veteran Deputy Fired After Probe

A Ventura County sheriff’s deputy has been fired after an internal investigation into allegations he made errors in at least two sex crime cases, authorities said.

Kent Adlof, a 14-year veteran of the department and a former detective in the East Valley Station in Thousand Oaks, was dismissed Monday, said Eric Nishimoto, a sheriff’s spokesman.

Adlof, 36, plans to appeal his firing, defense attorneys said Tuesday.

Adlof was placed on paid leave in April, a year after the Ventura County district attorney’s office began investigating the alleged errors, which forced prosecutors to dismiss or decline to file charges in the two cases.

Adlof, who lives in Camarillo, allegedly provided inaccurate information in the cases. Authorities would not release details of the cases but said Adlof does not face criminal charges.
