Mildred D. Lombardi; Retired Apartment Owner

Mildred Dorris Lombardi, a volunteer and retired apartment owner, died Saturday at her Camarillo home with her seven children and extended family by her side. She was 80.

She was born April 19, 1919, in New Orleans, where she attended school. During World War II, she went to work for Higgins Corp. of New Orleans and there met her future husband, Edward Lawrence Lombardi.

Later, the couple moved to California. They owned and for 30 years operated Lombardi Apartments in Woodland Hills.

She and her husband were instrumental in founding St. Mel’s Catholic Parish and Louisville High School in Woodland Hills. She also sponsored foster children in Italy and was a donor to a number of children’s charities, schools and churches.

Family members said she loved the cinema and the beach.

Lombardi is survived by daughters Millie K. Lombardi-Porta of Newhall, Kathryn Lombardi of Grass Valley, Susan Zahoryin of Newbury Park, Rita Otto of Reseda, Janet Lombardi-Blixt of Chico and Mary Ann Kirk of Smartville, Calif.; a son, Edward Lombardi Jr. of Grass Valley; a sister, Althea Vernon Copping; and 12 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death 10 years ago by her husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stevens-Johnson Syndrome Foundation, 9285 N. Utica St., Westminster, CO 80030; the Livingston Hospice, 1966 Eastman Ave., Suite 101, Ventura, CA 93003; or the American Cancer Society.

The funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel in Camarillo, with Father Jim Stehley officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Santa Barbara.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary, Camarillo.
