Besides battling blazes for a living, the Orange County Fire Authority faces another dilemma: retrofitting Fire Station No. 7 for earthquakes and temporarily housing the 15 career firefighters.

A plan to temporarily relocate the career firefighters along with their equipment and that of the 25 reserve firefighters during the expected two-month construction period is being reviewed by the Fire Authority and City Council.

The state-mandated seismic upgrading is expected to begin in late January or early February, but nothing has been finalized, said Mike Ahumada, battalion chief for Battalion 6.
