The Planning Commission will be reviewing the progress on the expansion of the First Southern Baptist Church at a meeting Jan. 5.

The conditional-use permit expires Friday and city officials are saying there has been no apparent progress with regard to construction since the last status report made by Pastor Wiley Drake on Oct. 27 of this year.

Drake says that due to the holidays, “construction is pretty well halted,” but they are still hoping to get donations of lumber and concrete.

In the meantime, Drake said he is still busy helping the poor and homeless and doesn’t really have a planned completion date. He said “the ball is in 1/8the city’s 3/8 court.”
