Another Word on Starbucks

Share

Way down here in San Pedro, the little town that L.A. forgets, we actually have a Starbucks (“Wherever We Go in the Southland, We’re Java Talking,” Dec. 7). If Mr. Fleischer [who wrote Dec. 26 complaining of Starbucks snobbism] were to park outside (it’s one of the smallest and since he apparently doesn’t want to come in, I won’t ask him to--it’s crowded anyway) and look at the clientele from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. he would see that someone from every aspect of this very mixed (socially, ethnically, economically) community goes to Starbucks. They are Italian, Croatian, fishermen, longshoremen/women, students, chiropractors and contractors--you name it. Starbucks on its own doesn’t breed “snobbishness”; that was probably in a community to begin with.

Now, if someone wants to attack Starbucks’ universally dreadful pastries, I will yield the floor.
