Two emergency workers will be publicly recognized for the emotional first aid they provided during traumatic events.

Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Paul Wade and Fire Chief Craig Casey will receive Good Samaritan awards at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

Representatives from the Traumatic Intervention Program, a national nonprofit organization, will present the awards. “Both men went above and beyond the normal call of duty during these events and exhibited unusual emotional skills with the citizens involved in the accidents,” said Sandy Hill, community relations manager for the Traumatic Intervention Program.

According to Hill, Wade showed exemplary compassion in October during a fatal accident between a car and a pedestrian. Casey also showed extra sensitivity when he responded to a call from a senior citizen who awoke to a flooded house and was alone with no way to get the water out of her house.
