DANA POINT

Although city officials do not expect widespread service outages when the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, the Emergency Operations Center will be activated as a precautionary measure.

Dana Point will have eight employees and emergency personnel on standby Friday to handle any problems that the dawning of the new year may bring.

“We’re not anticipating any problems, but we’re being prepared in case something does happen,” said Mark Johnson, the city’s emergency services coordinator. “Essentially, we’ll be in a monitoring mode, assuming there’s nothing out of the ordinary.”

City staff will maintain contact with the Orange County Emergency Operations Center, the county Sheriff’s Department and utility companies to determine if any agencies have been beset with Y2K-related problems, Johnson said.
