Concordia Beats Cal Baptist at Buzzer

Concordia’s Brian Vander Wal scored four points in overtime, including the game-winner at the buzzer, to lead the Eagles to a 77-75 victory over Cal Baptist in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday at Concordia.

Concordia’s Josh Giles had sent the game into overtime with a 24-foot three-pointer with four seconds remaining. Joel Burgess had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Concordia (14-10, 3-4).

In another Golden State Athletic Conference game:

Southern California College 59, Westmont 58--SCC shot 54% from the field in the second half, while holding Westmont to 35% in the upset victory. Jabari Simmons scored 14 points to lead visiting SCC (8-17, 2-5). Brian Gomes scored 17 points for Westmont (18-3, 5-2).

In Golden State Athletic Conference women’s basketball:

Concordia 90, Cal Baptist 52--Priscilla Bendik (12 rebounds, nine steals) and Melissa Ridge each scored 20 points and Jamie Gast scored 15 to bring her career total to 1,007.

Southern California College 62, Westmont 43--SCC (17-7, 5-2) was led by Amee Pina’s 15 points. In nonconference baseball:

UC Riverside 12, Southern California College 7--The Vanguards took a 3-1 lead, but Adam Suess (five RBIs) hit a three-run homer to give UC Riverside a 5-3 lead.

In men’s golf:

Lawrence takes third--UC Irvine’s Mike Lawrence shot a two-under 211 to finish tied for third with Arizona’s Derek Gillespie in the 54-hole Arizona Invitational in Tucson. UCI finished 16th, 35 strokes behind champion Washington.
