If there is the potential for a financial crisis in the Social Security system for the needs of coming generations of older Americans, why do we limit the Social Security tax to lower-income earners? Why is there a cutoff at earnings of $72,600 for contributions to Social Security? Why is not all earned income taxable for Social Security?
