A 27-year-old mechanic burned in an explosion at a limousine manufacturing plant in Brea was in critical condition Wednesday at the Grossman Burn Center at Martin Luther Hospital in Anaheim, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Rosendo Roa was using a torch to cut into a 55-gallon drum Tuesday afternoon when a spark ignited vapors, causing the explosion. He was burned over 60% of his body, on his thighs, torso, neck, face and head, said hospital spokeswoman Dana Woods.
Doctors this week will monitor Roa and prepare him for possible surgery next week, she said.
Three Brea fire engines, paramedics and other firefighters responded to reports of the explosion at Crystal Coach Limousine Manufacturing late Tuesday afternoon on East Imperial Highway.
