Freeway Solution

I have been reading The Times nearly every day since 1989. Your editorial (“Fast-Lane the Fix,” Jan. 31) was the very first time I can recall ever reading an editorial in which the 101 / 405 [freeway] mess was mentioned. I can’t tell you how thrilled I am that you finally got around to addressing a major traffic problem that has existed for as long as I can remember. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am that it took you so long to do so.

Your “disconnect” with the everyday difficulties that hundreds of thousands of motorists going in and out of the San Fernando Valley experience has never been more apparent. If The Times Valley Edition had gotten started on this issue at the start, we might now be enjoying an easier commute and the 550,000 cars that go through the interchange each day might move a bit faster, saving hundreds of thousands of gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel, tons of pollutants fouling the air, and getting people to their destinations a lot faster.
